Our Economy and Construction

Good morning! It's been a while since I last blogged, so let me give you an update. Since I last blogged our country has just about slipped into a great depression seemingly overnight. I guess all that false wealth created by Wall St. has finally caught up with us. Oh well you know I'm just a builder so what could i possible know? I do know this - if we are in fact in a depression then we will have to build ourselves out of it with massive public works projects of an unprecedented level. Things like mass transit, alternative energy, new infrastructure etc. Our new President will certainly have his work cut out for him. It's kind of ironic that when I finally have a working Internet site the country gets into trouble and construction suffers. Custom jobs will now be harder to get and there will be more competition for the available work- thank goodness I like the work I do and don't mind different types of jobs within the construction industry... if necessary.
I'm working today on a walnut trim piece for a custom bar i built a couple s months ago that was kind of a fun ongoing creative project. Stay tuned for photos. lastly I am looking forward to the day someone posts a comment to one of my blogs. ( there will be a prize for that.) Ciao.

Creating One-Of-A-Kind Items

Good news! My leg is back to 70% full strength and I'm ready for my first surf session in two weeks! I have also finished and delivered 38 Craftsman style curtain rod holders with chiseled in ebony plugs. That was a time consuming task but it was fun because that's what we do here at R.R. Contractors; really custom stuff. Anybody can go to Restoration Hardware and buy some faux curtain rod holders, but whats so great about that? What I like is "one-of-a-kind" creations that embody all that is pure of the artistic process- specifically making something original with your hands. We'll I got to get back to this job breakdown I'm doing right now then it's off to the beach for some exercise engaging in the sport of kings.

Still Healing while Finishing Curtain Rods

My leg is not healing very quick - too bad. Also my neck now hurts as well - double whammy! I still keep plugging along regardless of my physical condition. Stephen Hawking can only use his mouth and is able to work just fine - so "don't cry for me Argentina". Anyway, the craftsman curtain rods are coming along just fine, and should be ready for install soon. I've got some appointments coming up over the next few days- so I guess it's time to start a new job. Well I just finished this carrot so I got to go now - later.

Craftsman Curtain Rods

Hello. Today is my second day of recovery from a debilitating injury to my left thigh muscle. I am supposed to keep my leg wrapped, elevated and immobile for a few more days, but being self-employed does not allow me that luxury. So I will do office work and light duty woodworking in my quaint little shop. I am doing an interesting assignment for a client who we have worked for in the past. This individual would like me to create and install custom Craftsman style, curtain rods and holders made of wood. The beautiful thing is I don't even have to purchase any additional wood because he saved all the usable pieces of finish lumber we had left from the original new home project. I love being efficient, economical and environmentally correct. Well that's all for now- Any questions? I'm having a special this week free advice to those that ask.
Zenbuilder out.

Creating my website

Hi! I am finally getting my website off the ground so I should be able to link this blog to my website? How do I know I'm a baby when it comes to computers- I hope I can. Anyways If I can do it I will be blogging on a regular basis about jobs, problems that are solved, life, and funny stuff worth repeating. I certainly won't be wasting my time or anyone elses with banal BS, or boring triffles of any sort. So you can rest assured that you are in good hands with the Zenbuilder- cause ya know what? I'm just here to help-really.

A first blog

First of all I would like to welcome myself to the blogosphere, thank you so much- no really I mean it! I am the Zenbuilder now i can feel it! I am 44 years old and i have been doing construction more than half of my life. You may say wow I bet your body is wasted and you are really burn't out. Ah contrar my friends I feel like a million f'n bucks because hard work makes you strong, i'm in the best shape of my life. Your body and mind are muscles they need to be exercised on a regular basis. well enough of that b.s. the reason I set up this blog site is so i can connect with people about custom home building, which is what I do. I have done many challenging projects of a mostly custom nature and I look forward to discussing and relating to all kinds of things related to custom home building. My field of study is not limited to just building however, for i am a expert surfer, motocross rider, snowboarder, and skateboarder- though recently after sustaining a mild concussion on a half pipe ramp I built for my boys i don't skate that much. Anyways this is my first blog, do you remember your first blog? was it special? Currently I am finishing one spectacular craftsman house ( My specialty) and a gorgeous tuscan style medeteranean pad. Shit happens everyday in the wonderful world of construction some good, some bad, some interesting, some boring. Just remember this- all people who live with their eyes open never stop learning. thanks I feel like Iv'e had a pretty good first blog, I guess you could call it a flog.
